The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee

To celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, here at Clifton Photographic Company we have our very own Queen Lisa-Maria starring in a fittingly patriotic photo shoot! Our stylists headed down a quintessentially British route with her hair and makeup, and we see Lisa-Maria sporting a “modern curly chignon”, English rose complexion, and a splash of Royal Chanel red lips.

How to achieve the hair:

Horizontally section hair into half, from ear to ear.

Style the bottom half of hair into a ponytail, apply a donut, and pin into a bun.

Curl the top section of hair using either a wand or straighteners, and backcomb at root for volume.

Using grips, pin the top section, placing it around the bun, allowing the curls to cascade over, which will create a new form of ponytail.

Fix with hairspray.

How to achieve the make-up:

For a soft 1950’s style, start with a base of Illamasque rich liquid foundation for full coverage.

Use a very light pink eye base, all over the socket and up to the brow.

Define brow bone (just below the brow) by using a soft white.

Apply depth to the eye with Mac ‘haux’ soft pink within the inner socket.

Match the white and soft pink together with Mac ‘nylon’ on the middle of the lid, which creates a shimmery tone for pronunciation.

Now, using a dark brown Inglot eye pencil, add a soft flick onto the edge of each eye.

Then redefine this line, by going over it with L’oreal ‘gel intense’ eyeliner, following the full shape of eye.

Now apply white eyeliner along the water line (this is the inner rim of eye).

And to complete - lashings of mascara!

Whether it’s British sterling or stamps, we all carry the Queen around in our pockets and wallets on a daily basis, so we have created our very own Lisa-Maria stamp, 1st Class of course. Add a touch of bunting, a chic tea party and let the celebrations commence!

Clifton Photographic Company wish you all a very happy Diamond Jubilee, and look forward to seeing you soon for your very own stylised photo shoot.

COLOUR BURST!!!

cpcmakeover:

How often do you play with colour when it comes to your makeup? I am as fearful as the rest of you however, I’m more than happy to apply it by the bucket load on to somebody else. This was very true to form last week when one of our finest photographers asked me if I wanted to collaborate…

Vintage Inspired…

This week’s vintage look is inspired by the dramatic post-war, pin-up, movie star glamour from the late 1940’s to early 50’s. The elegance and romance from this era never ends, and our fabulous make-up artist Lisa-Maria is here to demonstrate how to achieve the Ginger Rogers allure.

Hair:  The Poodle Up-Do!

Step 1: Section the hair into 4 parts, like a hot cross bun! Using curling wands, start by curling each section, and for each complete curl, roll from tip to root, and flat pin to the head. Work from the back of the head to the front, until all hair is pinned up.

Step 2: Fix it with a generous application of hairspray, and leave to set for a couple of minutes.

Step 3: Unpin all of the hair, loosen by running a thick comb or fingers through, and section off into 4 parts again.

Step 4: Backcomb the roots of the crown to give lots of volume!

Step 5: Working from back to front again, re-pin the curls as high as possible, think pineapple! As you get closer to the top of the head and face, allow the curls to become tighter and fasten the final pieces decoratively around the forehead.

Step 6: Smooth down fly-away hairs and attach a suitably vintage fascinator- preferably to one side- so as to not ruin or hide this late 40’s movie star doo!

Mystreetchic.com competition winner…

The lovely Lizzie Stanley came in last week for a makeover shoot, having won a complimentary voucher on mystreetchic.com.

Photographer Dave Strange was spoilt for choice when it came to Lizzie’s outfits, who bought in a variety of vintage clothes which all looked great on camera. Lizzie was also a fantastic model and very natural in front of the camera which always helps!

Lizzie was over the moon with the finished result, taking a disc of all the images away with her on the day.

After her shoot, Lizzie went on to tell me what a lovely time she’d had and how welcome the team had made her feel, she even treated us to 3 bags of cookies to say thanks!

It was an absolute pleasure having you in the studio Lizzie. Congratulations again for winning the online competition and we hope to see you in the studio again soon.
